5 Stars the Abs Diet Ultimate Nutrition Handbook
I LOVED the author’s way with words-using humor and facts together. He was down to earth and even medical issues made sense. I like the thinking of this book and putting it together with the “eat right every time” and “six meals for six pack abs” is the ultimate goal for results. I learned new statistics and facts about nutrition that I did not realize even after years of trying multiple ways of dieting. I totally recommend this book!

5 Stars Eating Out Tonight? Eat These And Weep!
From: www.BasilAndSpice.com

Author & Book Views On A Healthy Life!

It’s the weekend. Not many feel like shopping and then preparing dinner, opting for a quick bite out instead. Watch what you’re putting into your mouth, it could end up on your waist! David Zinczenko, author of The Abs Diet Ultimate Nutrition Handbook includes an entire chapter titled, “The 20 Worst Foods Ever!” Eat these and Weep.

1. Fettucine Alfredo–worth up to 1,000 calories and 90 grams of fat. Order instead, whole-grain pasta with marinara.

2. Hardee’s Monster Thickburger–sounds great guys, but can you afford almost 1,500 calories and 107 grams of fat?

3. Creme-Filled Doughnut With Chocolate Icing–my husband used to eat two of these every morning before work, each weighs in at 250 calories, 9 grams of fat–saturated and trans.

4. Cinnabon Classic–800 calories and 32 grams of fat; if you just can’t pass it up, do like David and split it four ways.

5. Deep-Fried Twinkies or Oreos–I’ve never even eaten these! Avoid deep-fried foods in general. A Twinkie usually contains 150 calories/5 grams of fat. Deep frying triples the cals.

6. Cheese Fries with Gravy–1,000+ calories, contains partially hydrogenated oil. Eat a corn chip with salsa, is my quick fix.

7. Soda–the scourge of the easy-access generation, it’s called “pop” where I grew up. A typical 32oz. cola is around 300 calories. Hint–drink water.

8. Bloomin’ Onion–2,200 calories for an appetizer! Opt for a house salad.

9. Spinach Dip and Chips or Bread–spinach and artichokes themselves are nutritionally sound, but the cheese base of the dip jumps of the cals to around 140 for a 1oz serving.

10. Pork Rinds–this is fried pig skin and 1oz is worth 150cals, 10 grams of fat, and 500mg sodium.

11. Potpie–my kids love these, but I’ve searched the stores over, and the options are either loaded with fat (30g) and calories (500+) per serving, or hydrogenated oils are used for preparation.

12. Sausage or Hot Dog–three hot dogs at the average ballpark is 900 calories, and that’s without the beer! They also are full of nitrites.

13. Pizza Hut Stuffed-Crust Meat Lover’s Pizza–one slice equals 520 calories and 29 grams of fat. Half of the pizza is 2,000 calories. Since pizza is a Friday night special for everyone in my neighborhood, shoot for the lighter version of regular pizza, light on the cheese, add some veggies, skip the meat. I like thin crispy crust or whole wheat.

14. Cheesecake–a large piece tops out at 700 calories. If you’re eating out, try the new trend called mini-indulgences.

15. Movie-Theater Popcorn–with the melted butter and mindless-consuming you may eat 1,500 calories/100 grams of fat.

16. Frosting–do not lick the bowl! Or eat it by the spoonful! The prepared versions from the grocery store contain trans fats (to keep it from melting) and a whole lot of sugar. Mr. Zinczenko adds that one or two licks are OK, a kid at heart!

17. McDonald’s Chocolate Triple Thick Shake–600 calories, fat, sugar, high-fructose corn syrup. Try a homemade smoothie at home: frozen strawberries/ice cubes, soy/fat-free milk, other fresh fruits. Blend and drink! Even kids like this!

18. Chicken Wings with Blue Cheese Dressing–consider dropping the dressing, and the butter the wings are dipped into. If possible, don’t even eat the deep-fried wings. Order grilled chicken breast instead.

19. Chips with Olestra–David states, “…products made with olestra also deprive the body of vitamins that require fat for absorption, plus they have some ugly GI side effects. Blech.”

20. Your Calorie Kryptonite–the food you’re always drawn to. For me that’s the chocolate chip cookie! Enjoy your favorite food with a weekly “cheat meal.”

The new Abs Diet Ultimate Nutrition Handbook offers tips, tricks, recipes and studies that show people on the move, which is most of us, how to cut calories and fat.

5 Stars

5 Stars Excellent Book
Excellent book on how to get your abs back. It doesn’t take a million situps to get a 6 pack. It takes eating the right foods, eating smaller meals, more frequent meals per day, weightlifting and cardio exercises.

5 Stars Excellent!
I can’t believe no one has reviewed this yet. It is definitely a worthy companion to the actual Abs Diet book. This book alone can do wonders for your diet in my opinion. Tons of health tips!

5 Stars Great, insightful “Diet” book
I’m hesitant to call this a diet book because this plan includes a very wide range of different foods that you can eat and still fall within its guidelines. Perhaps my favorite thing about it though is how it explains exactly why you should it what it says. It explains the health benefits of each of the types of food, what they do and why its important to throw a lot of common misconceptions out the window, ie. “Can’t lose weight while eating foods with fat” It explains why fats are important and how its all a matter of eating the right kinds of fats and right balance of carbs and protein. Its a very easy read too, and easy to understand.

5 Stars If you want abs buy this book
I used to often buy all the workout magazines you see in the stores. Abs in 4 weeks! Eat the junk and still get a six pack! All these cover stories get you to buy the magazine, but in reality these are unrealistic goals. Sure if you run 15 miles a days and were to eat just grapes and prune juice you would lose weight, but hardly anyone has the time to do these plans or would want to eat such boring food for any protracted period of time. I have brought many workout books over the years and they tend to concentrate on the exercises and when it comes to diet its eat more protein, eat less junk, thanks for the cash, see you later.

This book is different. Unlike the recycled articles in the magazines written by pot-bellied journalists, this book is written by Neil Frost a man not scared to show a picture of himself and the results he has achieved following his own program. Achieving a six pack is within your grasp if you have the discipline to stick to the principles laid down in this book.

The program takes about 12 weeks and if you check out his website then you can see before and after pictures together with testimonials of people that have succeeded with this lifestyle program. I say lifestyle, as exercise will account for very little of your time. You don’t need to spend hours in the gym. The biggest part of the program is learning what you should be eating and when and this is fully covered in the book together with recipe ideas.

The exercise section is well thought out and easy to follow, the diet section is in depth but straightforward.

If you have the willpower to stick to this program, you will see impressive results. I know i have.

There is also a DVD for this program which is also worth a look.

5 Stars Great buy for the money…
I thought the book was very straight and to the point in that you can do crunches till you can’t do anymore, but just adominal work won’t get you that dream set of abs you desire. He tells you that in this book and how the key to a chisled stomach is mainly your diet.

Great read for anyone starting out and not fully understanding why you can’t see that flat stomach as of yet.

5 Stars This is THE solution to your six pack!
Right On! This book really reveals the secret of getting in rock-hard shape. I love the sections about carb rotation, and the author is not afraid to mention supplements that will help you get to your goal… whereas so many other books never do that. The work-out routines might be very similar to others you have seen, but the information about nutrition is very detailed… all you need to do is follow the guidelines and flab will be flying off. Another great section is about how models/bodybuilders prepare for competition. I always wondered about how they got those deep ridges between their abdominals. It’s all in this book. Finally someone that covers it all.

3 Stars Contradicting information
I’m about halfway through the book, but so many inconsistencies are coming up that I have to write this review now to cool off some steam. I am a fitness enthusiast that has read countless books about proper nutrition and I have to say, this book really frustrates me. After close speculation, I realize the author’s only credentials are the fact that he owns his own gym. . .go figure. He never mentions the two biggest diet offenders: trans fats and high fructose corn syrup. In fact, a few of his food suggestions actually contain HFCS; what a hack. And don’t get me started on his Low carb/High carb meal suggestions. Example: “Low carb day: Fruit salad-mixed fruit in a small bowl with 2 scoops of whey protein in a shake: 30g protein, 30 carbs, 2.4g fat, 0.7g sodium.” Two items later he gives this recipe for a HIGH carb day “2 scoops of whey protein with 200ml of cold water or low fat milk + 1 piece of fruit: apple, pear, orange or peach: 35g protein, 30g carbs, 3g fat, 0.5g sodium”. These two items are almost identical, except you’re eating a slightly larger amount of protein on high carb days. His “meal suggestions” are riddled with inconsistencies when the “low” carb suggestions sometimes have more carbs or equal to the high carb suggestions. How does this make sense? How are people supposed to understand his carb rotation philosophy if it changes from meal to meal? Not to mention that all of his suggestions are meant for a 150lb man. Really? Do you honestly think that’s the average weight of men reading your book? I still give this book 3 stars, because the basic principles are there, but this guy is no nutritionist BY ANY MEANS. From now on, I’m checking the author’s credibility before I buy the book. That way I won’t be scratching my head wondering what the heck this guy was smoking when he wrote this.

5 Stars A Great Investment!
I have just started following the Abs for Life System for about 3 weeks now and I’ve lost 9 pounds and an inch off my waist so far. I have trained on and off for about ten years now and this is no word of a lie, I’ve actually learned more from reading this book than I have in those ten years of reading all the fitness mags. I like the fact that although the book emphasizes on getting abs, it also provides a plan for building muscle all over your body. Myself and a few buddies at my gym have all been following the muscle building plan contained in the book.

Nutrition is covered extensively. As the author points out, forget sculpting great abs and a great body if you cannot nail your diet. I have learned so much about food I could write my own book on the topic! The meal suggestions were great and especially liked the guilt free desserts that were listed.

I like the approach of this system as it is maintainable not just short term, but I can see myself sticking to this for years to come. I will update this review in 12 weeks, but wanted to write something now as I am soo pleased with the results.

Please read this book, for under $16, it really is a sound investment. Bravo!

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great, as always
Not only have I been looking for this book forever, but I found it easily on Amazon. I bought it new for a great discount and it arrived within a few days. Once again, the quality and quick service keeps me coming back to Amazon!

2 Stars Received the book late with no returned correspondance
Having read the previous reviews, I sent three communication emails to this seller to maintain accountability, communication, and ensure that I receive the product I paid for. The seller responded to any of the emails. I purchased my book on July 6 and it was shipped (according to the postmark) on July 28th. I had already contacted Amazon to report an A-Z refund when I received my book in the mail on August 1st. The seller is a very poor communicator and getting your product is touch-and-go.

Once I received my book, I withdrew the A-Z claim. The book was in great condition. Shipping did not take long once it was shipped, but the seller just waited 22 days before shipping it.

2 Stars I gained almost 10lbs
I am a stay at home mother of 3. I had only 10 lbs left to loose after my 3rd baby but was stuck so I tried this. It did not work. I exercised every day, doing cardio and core work-outs, but still continued to gain. I was eating about 1500-1900 calories a day because I was working out so much, but still continued to gain. I think the bottom line is that it is not good for women to eat so much sugar (the smoothies) or fat, (peanutbutter and other nuts in thost quantities), that this book recomends. The book was written really well and the author was charming and cute, but the plan just didn’t work. I would read other books from him because his writing was so good, I just wouldn’t recomend this diet to loose weight, inspite of the fact that the smoothies tasted great. (But truth be told, I had to do Weight Watchers to get all that extra weight off)

4 Stars Good info
There was a lot of information in the book not just diet plans. How different medical conditions affect your weight. Even info about hormones and female issues resulting in weight gain. Easy diet and exercise plans to follow. I think it is a good reference book.

5 Stars The Abs Diet for Women
I have not read the book yet but this book looks like an awesome choice. I saw a lot of good eating and training tips inside while browsing.

PostHeaderIcon The Abs Diet Eat Right Every Time Guide

The Abs Diet Eat Right Every Time Guide

A portable companion to the larger Abs Diet: The Six-Week Plan to Flatten Your Stomach and Keep You Lean for Life, this friendly little guide fulfills several purposes. First, The Abs Diet Eat Right Every Time Guide condenses the “power foods” recommended by the diet–a nutritionally sound mix of lean proteins, whole grains, fresh vegetables, fruit and monounsaturated fats–into easy-to-read lists that will help with daily purchasing habits. Second, a number of “Abs Diet Endorsements” are included to help you make proper food choices, even if you’re grabbing lunch from a vending machine or food court. Lastly, it offers up a tidy handful of new recipes for wraps, snacks and smoothies along with a short-n-sweet workout. In other words, it supplies everything you need from a diet book to manage the diet on a day-to-day basis.

The casual hanging-with-the-boys style could be your favorite thing about it, or what drives you crazy. Phrases like “Skipping breakfast is like arguing with the cops; there’s absolutely nothing good that can come out of it” can either help reinforce the basics or just make you want to get far, far away from the rest of the jokes, such as, “Oatmeal is the Bo Derek of your pantry–it’s a perfect 10″.

The ultimate goal is uncovering your own six pack, and benefits like lower blood pressure seem less important than waist size. There’s something to be said for to-the-point surface goals, but your attitude about image will likely determine your attitude about the book’s usefulness. –Jill Lightner

5 Stars The Abs Diet – Eat Right Every Time Giude
I have not read the book yet but this book looks like an awesome choice. I saw a lot of good eating and training tips inside while browsing. I bought it along with The Abs Diet for Women.

5 Stars Great little cookbook
This has some of the best recipes around. The book is full of great meal ideas. Even my 16 year old likes these recipes and they please my hubby too.

4 Stars Good book to start off with
Good book to start off with if you are trying to figure out what to eat and what not to. It has helped me reach a point where I can scan the ingredients and nutrition values quickly and figure out what’s good for me and what’s not. I have recently had one full month of inactivity because of some additional work responsibilities and I still did not grow (which normally I had a tendency of) because I ate the right food. Might find the same content on websites but that is scattered all over the place. It’s a small book. Just be patient in the beginning as developing a sense of what and when to eat and what not to takes some time.

5 Stars Doesn’t feel like a diet
This is a great pocket sized book full of info on how to shed some pounds. The best part about it is that it does not feel like a diet-you even get to eat ice cream! There are a lot more recipes in here than in the original Abs Diet book, also a guide to eating out including fast food options.

4 Stars Good guide book
This is a great book if you don’t like to read alot or have time. It provides good information and I love the size of it. It fits in my purse and I can take it anywhere…. I lost 3 pounds the first week… I don’t consider it as a diet but a new way I’m going to eat for the rest of my life….. Healthy….I recommended this book to several of my co-workers and my family….
