Esp. with moderate exercise and a good diet. The cost of replacement pads is the main drawback. Sort of like buying replacement ink cartridges for your printer. A good med. supply store can help you get substitutes to trim and replace at a fraction of the cost.

I was skeptical when I decided to try this product, but yes, it works. Read on, only if you’re willing to take a little bit more medical detail than you might like. I ordered the unit when I weighed about 195. I was 52, and 6′3″, so not overweight, but not fat-less either. I exercised fairly regularly, 3-4 times a week, including 50 crunches, and a number of other abdominal exercises, along with light weights. I used the Slendertone for a few months, and then learned I had cancer. About a month after the diagnosis, I had to have a stomach tube or PEG implanted for feeding, at the same time I had my port installed for chemo. This is normally a one-hour general anesthesia procedure. Three hours later, they got done. Even under general, I distinctly recall being “hammered” on and hearing my surgeon yell at me to relax. Later, my wife told me that my surgeon said to her: “Your husband has the ab muscles of a 20 year old.” All due to the Slendertone? Probably not, but I know it helped. As soon as I got my PEG removed two weeks ago, I started using it again. I dropped 35 pounds during treatment, and don’t have anywhere near the energy I used to have [but I will get it back], but the Slendertone I can start using right away, even though my exercise routine is still very light. And I’ll admit that the electrical sensations actually feel okay.
I saw there is a new Flex Belt out, and although the website is unclear, it appears to be a Slendertone product, retail priced at 199. It uses a rechargeable battery pack [definite improvement] with finer and wider ranging control [another], and the stim unit on the front is less bulky [biggest current drawback]. It claims to be the first FDA-approved class II medical devices for EMS muscle stimulation. Based on my experience so far, I just may have to try it.

2 Stars didn’t work for me
Item arrived quickly. Handles already had the foam grips attached. I bought this as I wanted an ab workout that was more exciting than basic sit-ups. I tried it out several times, but the only “burn” I ever felt was in my elbows and my lower back – not what I wanted or needed. I watched some videos online of people using it, so I’m pretty certain I was using it correctly. I am not overweight, just under-toned. Maybe it works more effectively for people who start out with more muscle than me. It did nothing for me. I returned this item.
3 Stars It works, but it doesn’t
The reviewer, Steven Maines is right on the money with his review of this product. I read his review and thought I was reading my own…LOL I too have used this product over the years and YES. It works! But at the same time, it doesn’t work! Each one of these I have bought has ended up breaking after several months of regular use. I’m 5′11, 170 lbs male(average size). It should not break like that. I have bought 3 of these over the years from various websites. It’s been some time since my last purchase, but I just ordered one from Amazon today because I want that 6 pac I had before, and this machine gave it to me. I know what I’m getting. I just hope it lasts at least 6 months….LOL Keep in mind, you will see results within only weeks of using this machine. Of course you can’t go out eating cheeseburgers everyday either. Normal diet and active lifestyle required.

I had a roller slide in the past. Lost it. Thought this was the same product but it is much less sturdy. I’m sure it will not last.

Ab slide works great, and is very effective on abs! Great size, can go on travel and is easily put away when not in use!
5 Stars MUCH better than Ab Rocket, better construction than Ab Wheel
I’ve used the simple Ab Wheel, and the higher-end Ab Rocket in addition to the Ab Slide. Out of all three, this is by far the most convenient.
CONSTRUCTION & DURABILITY
First of all, it’s construction is vastly superior to both the Ab Wheel and Ab Rocket. Over a year after owning this product, it’s still as strong as ever!
WORKOUT
You really feel the burn after this workout! Using the ab wheel, I felt a burn not only in my abs, but in my back! Even after I learned to correct my form, this back pain plagued me. With the Ab Slide I don’t have nearly as much back pain as I do with the Ab Wheel.
PRICE
This is about a fifth of the price of the Ab Rocket, and only $10 more for a sturdier product than the ab wheel.
Conclusions:
Strong abs won’t appear overnight, but if you commit to using this you’ll notice results. It took me several months, but I definitely see a difference now.

Not sure if it is accurate, but seems to be within a decent range. If you want to get an “idea” of where you are, it will be good for you.

Gives you an more defined idea of body fat percentage and is about as good as your going to get for cost. It is plastic and wears out over time, also the click you are suppose to hear on my latest one does not click so I have to visualize the action, which can be done, however is not convenient.
5 Stars Exactly what I wanted
I have been looking for a set of plain plastic calipers. These are just what I wanted. Simple, easy to use, and with a little practice for consistency, very reliable. With electronic devices you have fluctuations based on hydration levels and other factors that cause results to be different at different times of the day. This product reads the same at any time of day.
It also does not require getting on the scales in order to moniter body fat. Reduce body fat and the inches will always go as well. That is not always true of the the fluctuating scale.
Sometimes simplicity is just so good.
3 Stars Didn’t work for me.
This body fat tester is designed to evaluate your body fat percentage by measuring just one spot (an inch above your Anterior Superior Iliac Spine, or hip “pointer”), with this thickness then being cross-referenced against the included table to arrive at a percentage reading. Actually, two tables are included: one for men and one for women. The tables seem to be created from a cross-section of average men and women. Most likely, if you gain fat like an average man or woman (stomach first for man, hips/butt first for women is my guess) then this would give you a roughly accurate reading. Unfortunately, neither me nor my wife get fat like normal people (nor do we do much else like normal people, for that matter.) Needless to say, I’m a little overweight, yet it told me I was “lean,” and my wife is also a little overweight and it told her she was “borderline obese.” I haven’t had it checked yet, but my guess is that a professional using a more expensive device and several areas of body fat “pinching” would arrive at a much more accurate reading. Hope this helps.

Very easy to use. Once you get the hang of taking readings, you can be very precise. I haven’t been measured by a professional so I don’t know how accurate it is. I do recommend visiting some of the sites in other reviews and using a three location measurement technique as the included instruction card seems a bit limited.
I would consider this product an excellent value for the money!
